Bury is a town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Irwell. It lies 5.5 miles east of Bolton, 6 miles west-southwest of Rochdale and 8 miles north-northwest of Manchester. The borough of Bury has a wider population of 187,474 as of 2011.

Historically part of Lancashire, Bury emerged in the Industrial Revolution as a mill town manufacturing textiles and paper – but has since diversified into a service and retail orientated economy. Bury is known for its open-air Bury Market and the traditional local dish, black pudding. In recent years the Rock retail development and well established industrial parks has put Bury on the map both for shopping and distribution.

WHERE IS BURY?

There are a number of well-established Industrial estates in bury due to it’s excellent connectivity to motorway networks. To name a few of these estates; Bridge Hall Industrial Park, Warth Industrial Estate, Peel Industrial Estate, J2 Industrial Estate, Pilsworth Industrial Estate and a large scheme at Chamberhall Business park which is due to be commencing early 2018. The town of Bury boasts a vast array of diverse and equally large occupiers such as Champion Mouldings, JD Sports, Tetrosyl and Wallwork Heat Treatment.

First Greater Manchester and Rosso operate most bus services around Bury, connecting with destinations within Greater Manchester, Rossendale, Accrington and Burnley. The station is located in the centre of Bury. Manchester Metrolink operates trams to Manchester, Altrincham, Eccles, Rochdale Town Centre, Ashton-under-Lyne, East Didsbury, Medication in Salford and Manchester Airport. There is generally a 6-minute service from Bury to Manchester city centre, with every other tram continuing to Altrincham.

The Northern Gateway employment site proposed in the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework has the potential to change the nature of employment in the area. It is likely to be the largest employment scheme in Greater Manchester for the next decade.
